Palmetto hit-and-run driver sought by Florida Highway Patrol

MANATEE — Authorities are trying to find the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash on 19th Street West in Palmetto.

The suspect vehicle, said to be a Nissan, was northbound on Second Avenue West south of 19th Street West at 5:29 p.m. Sunday when it struck the left rear of a parked and unoccupied 1998 Nissan Pathfinder, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The vehicle then left the scene, FHP reported.

The owner of the Pathfinder, who had parked the vehicle improperly on the shoulder in front of 1812 Second Ave. W., Palmetto, followed the Nissan to 2005 Bayshore Road in Palmetto where the driver jumped out of his vehicle and ran, according to FHP.

The release does not say if the owner of the Pathfinder was given a parking citation.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any knowledge as to the identity or location of the hit-and-run driver is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800.
