Arrest made in Tuesday's deadly burglary

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Friday announced an arrest in the armed burglary Tuesday morning at the home on Ernie Shank Court in Sarasota during which Calvin Yoder was shot and killed.

Sarasota Sheriff's deputies arrested Leon Rogers, 20, in connection with the burglary. Rogers, whom the report said fled the scene when shots were fired, is charged with armed burglary of an occupied dwelling. Rogers was booked into the Manatee County Jail Friday. No mention of bail was made.

Earlier, the the man who fatally shot Yoder faces charges of illegally possessing the handgun he fired.

Christopher Bane, 36, was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bane was convicted of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell in March 2001. He said he wasn't aware he is a convicted felon.

Bane told deputies he fatally shot 22-year-old Yoder after hearing glass break. He came face-to-face with Yoder as he tried to open his son's door and they exchanged gunfire. Bane was not hit.

Bane was released on $7,500 bail.
