Sarasota woman charged with careless driving after striking school bus; no injuries

SARASOTA — A Sarasota woman has been charged with careless driving after a crash involving a school bus carrying 35 high school students, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Whitley Rose Ramos, 26, was charged after the crash at 2:50 p.m. Monday near Mango Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to the report.

Ramos was stopped northbound on Mango Avenue for a stop sign at the intersection with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The school bus was slowing eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way after making a right turn from Mango Avenue.

FHP officials reported Ramos tried to turn right onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way as the school bus was slowing down. The front right of the vehicle struck the rear of the school bus.

No injuries were reported from either vehicle, according to the report.
