Florida Highway Patrol suspects Sarasota driver was drinking before Sunday crash in Nokomis

SARASOTA — A 21-year-old Sarasota man who had been drinking was in serious condition Sunday at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton after a single-vehicle crash in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 3:20 p.m. at U.S. 41 and Palm Avenue in Nokomis, according to a Florida Highway Patrol release.

A 19-year-old female passenger in the man’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated at Venice Regional Hospital, according to the release.

The driver was southbound on U.S. 41 in a 2003 Jeep Cherokee when he lost control while turning left on Palm Avenue, according to the release. The Jeep rotated counterclockwise and overturned, according to the report.

The Jeep hit a yield sign and a no-parking sign, according to the report. Charges are pending against the driver.
