FHP to crack down on wrong-way drivers, DUIs

TAMPA -- The Florida Highway Patrol announced a major crackdown on suspected DUI drivers this weekend after fatal collisions caused by wrong-way drivers, nearly all under the influence of alcohol or drugs, killed 11 people so far this year in wrong-way crashes on Tampa-area roadways.

The FHP say this weekend will be the first of three crackdowns targeting suspected DUI drivers, and people driving the wrong direction. It will involve extra FHP troopers from around the state coming to Hillsborough County to add to the deputies already on patrol.

FHP plans a press conference Thursday with more details.
