Sarasota man, 53, charged with felony snatching $5 from female victim

SARASOTA -- Victor McDaniel, 53, has been charged with felony robbery by sudden snatching after stealing money from a victim walking along the 1900 block of Main Street in Sarasota.

At about 1:40 p.m. Monday, the victim told officers McDaniel called to her as she was walking northbound in the alley between Hollywood 20 and the parking garage at 1993 Main St. in Sarasota going to Bank of America. The victim told McDaniel she couldn’t talk and walked away.

When returning through the alley, McDaniel came up behind the victim and said he needed a couple of dollars. The victim offered $2 but McDaniel told her to give him $20, then reached into the victim’s wallet and grabbed $5. The said shed yelled at him as he ran toward Fruitville Road.

Sarasota police officers arrested McDaniel on Fruitville Road at North Links Avenue in Sarasota.

The Sarasota Police Department reminds residents and visitors it’s safer to give donations to local social services and not to an individual.
