Sheriff: Tennessee fugitives captured in Sarasota County

SARASOTA -- A couple from Tennessee wanted on multiple drug and weapons charges was captured Monday by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit.

Hershel Bedsole and Karen Bedsole, both 35, were found in the 2800 block of Indianwood Drive in Sarasota. According to a report, Karen was in the backyard when deputies arrived and tried to run into the house. Deputies said Hershel was barricaded in a closet but taken into custody without incident.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit worked with the U.S. Marshal Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force on the case.

According to a report, the Bedsoles have seven warrants out of Blount County, Tenn. The warrants stem from an investigation in which detectives there found a grow operation in the couple's home. Officers seized more than 20 mature marijuana plants, nine starter plants, two pounds of packaged pot, six guns including one loaded weapon and $8,500 in cash, according to the sheriff's office.

According to a report, the Bedsoles will be held in the Sarasota County jail until they can be extradited back to Tennessee.
