SARASOTA -- Officers seized more than $5,000 in cash, 172.6 grams of marijuana and a pistol in two separate cases Saturday and early Monday, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
Dillon Pizzarello, 20, of Sarasota, was arrested on charges of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell over 20 grams and misdemeanor driving under the influence with personal injury at 5:40 a.m. Saturday.
According to a report, a motorist traveling northbound did a U-turn at 4:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota and drove in front of a vehicle heading southbound. The vehicle struck another vehicle, police said.
According to a report, police officers found 172.6 grams of marijuana and $5,540 in U.S. currency in the vehicle when they arrived to the scene, in addition to rolling papers and baggies. Pizzarello, the driver, told officers he worked as a bartender and later provided a sample of his breath, which police say registered as a 0.22 and 0.21. Pizzarello was released the same day on bonds totaling $2,000, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Malachi Brandon-Jamaal Scurry, 21, of Sarasota, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. Monday.
According to a report, officers responded to the 1500 block of Main Street in Sarasota a few minutes prior at 2:30 a.m. for a disturbance. Police were told that one of the subjects threatened to use a firearm.
Scurry was walking eastbound in the 1500 block of Main Street and, according to a report, was subject to a pat down by an officer after a witness said he had a firearm on him. A Ruger .380 LCP Pistol was found in his right rear pocket, according to a report. Scurry told officers he did not have a concealed weapons license. He was charged with felony carrying a concealed firearm, according to a report. He was released the same day on $1,500 bond, according to Sarasota police.
