MANATEE — Authorities have found an armed home invasion suspect formerly known only as “Mookie.”
Jeffry Rhyan McGhee of Venice, who goes by the name, “Mookie,” was arrested Sunday and charged with an armed home invasion robbery related to an incident in Manatee County, also on Sunday.
McGhee was in the Manatee County jail Thursday on a $250,000 bond, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office report.
His girlfriend, Clara Edwards, was also arrested on a charge of home invasion robbery with a deadly weapon and is jailed on $250,000 bond.
The report said McGhee and Edwards went to the victim’s home in the 2300 block of 30th Avenue West in Bradenton and walked in an open front door. McGhee reportedly kicked in the victim’s bedroom door.
The victim later told authorities he knew McGhee only by the name “Mookie.”
McGhee reportedly pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim’s head and directed Edwards to search for the victim’s wallet, money and cell phone. Edwards reportedly found $500.
McGhee then reportedly handed the gun to Edwards and puts a two-pronged serving fork to the victim’s throat, saying: “I wish you would make a move.”
McGhee tied the victim’s hands with a belt from his closet and threatened him with a baseball bat, the report states.
Edwards than ran out and got in a four-door car and McGhee followed. The victim freed his hands, grabbed the bat and struck the getaway vehicle twice as it raced from the scene.
The report does not say how McGhee or Edwards were arrested.
