Deputies nab suspect in Sarasota bank robbery

SARASOTA — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has a suspect in custody after a SunTrust bank was robbed about 11:10 a.m. Wednesday.

The suspect, wearing a hat and sunglasses, entered the bank located at 5900 Katie Lane, near Bee Ridge and Cattlemen roads.

The man demanded cash and indicated he was armed, according to the sheriff’s office. The man put the money in a black plastic bag and fled on foot.

The suspect’s hat and shirt were found during a ground, air and K9 search of the area, according to the sheriff’s office.

A man matching the suspect’s description was taken into custody by a deputy responded to the robbery.

Deputies have confirmed he is the suspect from bank surveillance video footage, a news release states.

The suspect’s name and additional information will be released when charges are filed, according to the sheriff’s office.
