Man escapes assault and would-be robbery in Manatee County

MANATEE -- A 23-year-old victim escaped injury when he was able to pull away from a man who was beating him and run to security about 2:18 a.m. Sunday in the 5800 block of 15th Street East, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim had been standing waiting for a taxi when approached by three men.

A witness reported that one of the three grab the victim by the shirt and say "come with me," before starting to punch him, yelling "give me your money," a sheriff's report said.

Security alerted deputies of the attack. The witness saw the suspects jump into a white 4-door compact vehicle and flee the area. The victim was uninjured.

The man who assaulted the victim was described as being 6 feet, 170 pound, and in his early 20s. He was bald, and wore a a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
