Suspect charged with robbing homeless man in Bradenton

MANATEE -- Deputies arrested one of three men suspected of robbing a homeless man late Wednesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was asleep in front of a business in the 5200 block of 14th Street West about 10:20 p.m., when he was awakened by someone hitting him in the face with their fist. He then saw three men fleeing on foot, but one came back to throw at him the ID-related contents of his wallet -- but not the actual wallet, according to a news release.

The victim called deputies, who were able to locate three suspects in the parking lot of a nearby gas station. However, the victim was able to identify only Keith B. McCarty, 22, as the man who threw his items at him, according to the report.

McCarty was arrested and faces a robbery charge.

The victim could not identify the other suspects so they were not charged, according to the sheriff's office.
