Manatee sheriff's police dog nabs, bites wanted man

MANATEE -- A man wanted on several charges was arrested early Friday after a police dog took him down and bit him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies learned that Jeremiah Lee, 31, was in the vicinity of Interstate 75 and State Road 64, and when they went to the area they spotted him walking out of the wooded area between a Burger King and a Circle about 2:18 a.m., according to a news release.

When Lee saw a deputy, he immediately fled on foot, and the deputy released his dog.

The dog, K9 Timo, took Lee down in the grass. When Lee tried to flee again, the dog bit him on the right arm and again took him to the ground, according to the report.

Lee faces charges of grand theft, resisting arrest and giving a false name. He also was wanted on several warrants out of Sarasota County, according to the sheriff's office. No booking information was available on the Manatee County jail website.

Lee was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment of a minor puncture and scrapes.
