Sheriff: Deputies investigate Bradenton woman's claim that burglar tried to drown her

MANATEE -- Manatee sheriff's deputies are continuing to investigate the case in which a woman accused a burglar of trying to drown her in a swimming pool.

Randy Warren, sheriff's office spokesman, said further investigation has revealed inconsistencies in the woman's account of what happened late Tuesday after her home in the 2600 block of 23rd Street West.

"When we examine evidence, there are things that don't connect," he said. "We just need to look at this a little bit further."

Earlier, the sheriff's office had reported that a masked man broke into the woman's home shortly after 10 p.m. while she was asleep. He took her to the swimming pool, "where it appears the subject tried to drown her," a news release states.

Numerous sheriff's units responded, including K-9 and a helicopter.

The investigation is continuing.
