Sarasota police hope to ID ATM robber

SARASOTA -- Sarasota police detectives hope the public can help identify the man who robbed a woman at an ATM machine late Wednesday.

The hold-up, which was captured by a security camera, happened just before 10 p.m. at the Bank of America ATM machine at 3175 Fruitville Road. As the woman was walking up to the ATM, an assailant approached her from behind and demanded that she withdraw money from her account, a police news release stated.

"He instructed her not to look back and kept his hand in his pocket implying that he had a gun," but no weapon was observed, the release states.

The victim withdrew the money and handed it to the man. The assailant then ran northbound from the bank's parking lot.

Responding officers set up a perimeter but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as having a thin build and being about 30 years old. He had a light beard and was wearing dark-colored clothing and a white baseball cap, according to Sarasota police.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call Detective Todd at 941-954-7091.
