Teen charged with attempted murder in Sarasota home invasion case

SARASOTA -- A 17-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder for a shooting that occurred during a home invasion last week in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives say Khalin Bryant was one of two gunmen who barged into a home on New England Street on Friday night and demanded money from two teenagers who were there. The suspects beat the victims, and Brant shot the father of one of the victims when he entered the room to try to disarm Bryant, according to the sheriff's office.

The shooting victim was treated at a hospital and released.

Bryant is charged with attempted second-degree murder, armed burglar and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Sarasota County jail on Monday, then transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
