Manatee deputies investigate 'suspicious' incident involving 11-year-old girl

MANATEE -- Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a man who tried to obtain personal information from an 11-year-old girl at a Bradenton bus stop Thursday morning, according to a news release.

Authorities said they do not think the incident was connected to another incident 45 minutes later, when a 9-year-old girl was approached by the driver of school as she walked to Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary School.

About 7:15 a.m., the girl was at her stop at 15th Street East and State Road 70 East, when she was approached by a man pulling a suitcase who started making conversation with the girl. The man pulled some items from the case and asked the girl for personal information, according to the report.

The incident was reported later when the girl arrived at school.

The suspect was described as a man possibly in his 50s, 6 feet, 1 inch tall and 250 pounds with gray receding hair. He was wearing an unknown color shirt, blue jean shorts and white sneakers.

Anyone with information about what happened can call the sheriff's office at 941-747-3011.
