Biyclist chased, shot near downtown Miami

A man riding his bike north on Northwest First Place near downtown Miami around lunchtime Wednesday was chased by three men, one of whom shot him in the left buttocks, leaving him sprawled on the pavement in pain.

The cyclist, in his 20s, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, his condition unknown. A police officer on the scene said the shooting victim was conscious and talking.

It happened about noon. The cyclist was riding a purple bike northbound, near 13th Street, when the three confronted him. One emptied a full clip from what appeared to be a .40 caliber semiautomatic, according to the officer

After the cyclist was hit, the three assailants took off north, leaving behind a trail of spent cartridges. When the victim was taken away by Miami Fire Rescue, he left behind the purple bike, a water bottle and a red ball cap with white lettering.

A police spokesman said the shooting victim was in stable condition at Ryder. However, police said they could learn little information from the victim because he was being uncooperative.
