Sheriff: Myakka City man arrested after threatening to kill family, himself

MANATEE -- A Myakka City man was arrested after he came home drunk, punched his son in the eye and threatened to kill his family and himself, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

David C. McWilliams Jr., 44, arrived at his home in the 40000 block of Clay Gully Road about 7:30 p.m. Monday, "highly intoxicated again and was banging on the front door," a news release states.

His 20-year-old son answered the door, and McWilliams grabbed him by the shirt and punched him in the eye. McWilliams then entered the house, yelled at everyone inside and grabbed a knife, according to the report.

His son ran outside and McWilliams chased him with the knife. The son retrieved a rifle from his truck to protect himself and McWilliams yelled, 'You better shoot me because I am going to kill you," the report states.

McWilliams then walked into the back yard and said he would rather kill himself than return to jail.

Responding deputies, including a K-9 unit, searched the surrounding farmland and woods and eventually found and arrested McWilliams.

He was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail, on charges of domestic aggravated assault and domestic battery.
