Authorities find weapons after fugitive surrenders in Bradenton standoff

MANATEE -- Authorities found two weapons in a Bradenton home after a wanted man surrendered after a standoff, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies surrounded a residence in the 1400 block of 23rd Street East about 11:20 p.m. after learning Tauvolous Smith, 29, might be there. Smith was wanted out of Manatee on a charge of tampering with evidence and out of Sarasota County for domestic battery, according to the sheriff's office.

As deputies waited for a SWAT unit to arrive, Smith called officials to say he wanted to surrender. He then left the residence and was arrested, according to a report.

During a search of the residence, deputies found a Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle, along with a loaded magazine and a box of ammunition, and a loaded .38-caliber Taurus handgun.

Smith was in the Manatee County jail on $20,000 bond for two counts of witness tampering.

Additional charges are pending, according to the sheriff's office.
