Detectives identify person of interest in Manatee slaying

MANATEE -- Detectives have identified a person of interest in connection to a shooting early Monday that left one man dead, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

At about 3:20 a.m., deputies found Ruben Harris, 29, shot dead near his car in the parking lot of a gas station at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and Ninth Street West.

The sheriff's office released surveillance photos of a man detectives are calling a person of interest.

He was identified as Earl Scott, 32.

Sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow said Scott was identified during interviews regarding the case.

"We want to talk to him," Bristow said, adding that "we're not calling him a suspect."

Authorities are now trying to obtain a warrant.

Before he was killed, detectives believe Harris got into a fight at DaVinci's, a strip club at 105 Cortez Road W., Bradenton.

The sheriff's office described Scott on Monday as a regular at the club who goes by the name of B-Low and drives a light-colored Dodge Magnum.
