Florida golfer accused of ramming bachelor party with cart, whacking player with club

A 61-year-old Jacksonville golfer was arrested after witnesses said he drove his cart into a group of partying bachelors and whacked one with a club on the 18th green of the municipal course.

“It was some guy who must have been having a bad day,” Murdock Hampe, 27, who suffered a badly swollen leg when hit by the golf cart and a long knot when a golf club was broken over his head, told jacksonville.com.

James Alonzo Hines was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to reports, Hines complained the group was taking too long.

“The first thing he said was, ‘You need to respect your elders,’ ” said Hampe, 27, of Jacksonville Beach.

Hines began hitting balls at them before getting into his cart and ramming the group, running over the leg of a partyer.

The group jumped on Hines, the report said, and everyone tumbled into a sand trap.
