Detectives release photos of possible suspect in Bradenton slaying

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office on Monday afternoon released photos of a man detectives say may have been involved in the fatal shooting of another man earlier in the day.

Detectives believe Ruben Harris, 29, was involved in an altercation early Monday at DaVinci's Nightclub, 105 Cortez Road, Bradenton. Soon after, about 3:20 a.m., he was found shot to death in the parking lot of a Shell gas station at the intersection of 301 Boulevard East and Ninth Street East.

The person in the photographs, taken by a security camera "has been described as a regular at the club and is known by the name B-Low," a news release states. man drives drives alight colored Dodge Magnum.

After deputies found Harris dead, detectives began trying to trace his whereabouts before the shooting.

“Our detectives are asking, ‘Where was Ruben Harris before he was shot?’“ Dave Bristow, a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said Monday. “We don’t know a whole lot and we are trying to come up with additional leads. There’s a possibility he was in a bar or nightclub. We think there was an altercation and we believe that is what led to Ruben’s death.

“The way you do this is backtrack and see where the victim was before the shooting,” Bristow said. “Once you find that out, you begin interviewing witnesses to find out what happened.”

Harris had many run-ins with the law in his past. In 2003 and 2006, Harris served three sentences at the Manatee County jail for drug and other offenses.

In August 2011, Harris was charged with aggravated battery against a pregnant woman, a second-degree felony. The case against him, was later dropped.

Harris's death was the eighth slaying in Manatee County in 2012.

Anyone with information about Harris's death can call the sheriff’s office at 941-747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
