MANATEE -- A Bradenton man was tasered this morning after being observed choking his girlfriend, and charged with domestic battery, and possession of ammo by a convicted felon, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.
A deputy who was responding to an abandoned 911 call in the 2100 block of Flamingo Boulevard about 4:54 a.m. today said he heard yelling between a male and female when he got to the residence.
As he approached the open front door, the deputy heard a female yelling “Let go” several times. Fearing for the safety of the female, the deputy looked in through the front door and observed a man on the couch choking a woman, the sheriff's office reported.
When the man failed to obey an order to leave the woman alone, the deputy used his Taser device, striking the man in the back and buttocks, the sheriff's office reported.
The man, identified as Rodney Flewellen, 26, immediately let go and complied with the deputy’s orders. The deputy held Flewellen at taser point until backup arrived, when he was placed into custody.
A search revealed that Flewellen had one .38 round of ammunition in his pocket. Flewellen is a convicted felon, and was also charged with possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
