Sarasota man claims he was beaten, robbed in Manatee

MANATEE -- A 19-year-old Sarasota man claimed that he was jumped, punched, knocked unconscious, tied up and robbed of $150, his cell phone and his driver's license before 1 a.m. Saturday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

He also claimed that he was tied down with zip ties in a small shed at an unknown location. And that he broke the zip ties after three hours of trying, kicked open a window, and fled the location. He ran approximately five miles to a church where he called Manatee County Sheriff's Office after a long nap, he said.

But after being questioned by sheriff's investigators, the man could not be sure where the attack occurred, and had no idea how to return to the shed where he said he had been tied up, the sheriff's office reported.

An investigator told the complainant his story did not match the evidence. He did not have any marks on his wrists nor any injuries to his face after being held captive for over 3 hours and being punched hard enough to render him unconscious. The complainant became very defensive and started yelling, according to the sheriff's report.
