Intoxicated pedestrian dies in St. Petersburg hit-and-run

ST. PETERSBURG -- An intoxicated pedestrian was lying on his back across a St. Petersburg road Wednesday night when he was run over by a car and killed.

According to St. Petersburg Police officials, the pedestrian was lying on the road in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue North as a dark colored Nissan sedan was traveling eastbound in the north curb lane at a high rate of speed around 8:40 p.m.

Officials said the pedestrian shouted at witnesses as the car moved into the south curb lane and ran over the man.

The man was killed.

The vehicle sped away eastbound on Fourth Avenue North and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was described as a newer model, black or dark colored, mid-sized Nissan sedan.

The pedestrian has not been identified, pending notification of family.
