SWAT officers raid houses in Bradenton shooting case

BRADENTON -- A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant Wednesday morning at a house near the 400 block of Ninth Avenue East after approximately 50 law enforcement officers conducted searches on three properties unrelated to the man’s arrest.

“We executed three search warrants in regards to a shooting that we had here about three weeks ago,” said Bradenton Police Capt. Warren Merriman.

The arrest of Enrique Machuca, Jr., 19, was not in connection to the search warrants for the shooting, Merriman said.Machuca's arrest was for driving with a suspended license.

Several area streets were closed during the searches, forcing motorists to find detours.

SWAT team and gang unit officers responded to the properties on the 400 block of Ninth Avenue East and 10th Ave. E. about 10:15 a.m. and left the scene around noon, Merriman said. The Manatee County Sherriff’s Office assisted Bradenton police.

Merriman said the shooting “could be gang involved” and that was why the gang unit assisted with the search.
