Sarasota man wanted in bank robbery

SARASOTA - Sarasota police are hunting for a man they said robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at 2891 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota Friday.

The man entered the bank and presented a note demanding cash and implying that he had a weapon, according to a Sarasota Police Department report.

The report did not indicate how much money the robber got, but responding officers did gather enough information to name a suspect in the case.

Police are looking for James William Holderman, 53, a convicted felon with multiple previous convictions for armed robbery, the report indicates.

Holderman lives less than a half mile from the bank, in the 2300 block of Bougainvillea Street, the report states.

In their attempt to apprehend the suspect, the Sarasota Police Department teamed with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, which provided a helicopter, numerous deputies and canine.

Officers surrounded the suspect’s home, evacuated nearby residents, and set up a perimeter around the home Friday evening. There was no response to the repeated attempts to make contact with anyone inside of the residence.

Sarasota Police Department SWAT officers secured the scene until an arrest warrant and search warrant were obtained.

After obtaining the warrants, officers searched the residence; however, the suspect was not located.
