4 masked gunmen rob Palmetto gas station

MANATEE -- Four masked gunmen robbed a Palmetto gas station early this morning and burned their getaway car, before getting in another vehicle, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they did recover the stolen money.

The gunmen entered the Pilot gas station at 5215 17th St. E., Palmetto, about 3:54 a.m. They forced the cashier to open the register and stole an undetermined amount of money, according to a news release.

The suspects fled and got into a waiting vehicle behind the store.

"The getaway vehicle was recovered a short time later set on fire a short distance from the robbery scene," the release states.

The robbers got into a second vehicle, which also was recovered.

Deputies said they recovered evidence, including the stolen money.
