2 arrested in Sarasota in connection to Kentucky murder

SARASOTA - Two people were arrested in Sarasota on Wednesday in connection to a Kentucky murder case, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

Michel Vega Cartas, 23, and Janzel Vega Cartas, 20, were arrested at the AmercInn Hotel in the 5900 block of Fruitville Road.

They were in Room 332 with Maisbelys Gurri, 20, who refused to open the door to deputies. She was arrested on an obstruction of justice charge.

On Jan. 15, the two brothers allegedly fatally stabbed a 23-year-old man in a McDonald’s parking lot in Louisville, Ky., a media release said.

Investigators believe the suspects went to Miami. But when Miami law enforcement were searching for them, they traveled to Sarasota County.

All three were booked into the Sarasota County Jail. The brothers are awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
