Bradenton man charged with DUI after jogger hit and killed in Sarasota County (with video)

A suspect fleeing from a wreck in Sarasota County Saturday afternoon lost control of his Nissan Altima and struck and killed a jogger, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Donna L. Chen, 53, of Sarasota was jogging along State Road 758 near Glebe Lane at 1 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by the car driven by Blake C. Talman, 22, of Bradenton. Troopers said Talman hit the woman after striking a metal pole. The Altima also struck several poles in front of St. Michael's Archangel Catholic Church and another car.

Troopers charged Talman with driving under the influence-manslaughter, multiple counts of DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Bail had not been set.

He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he and a passenger, 24-year-old David Brewer of Sarasota, were admitted in serious condition, troopers said.

Chen died at the scene, troopers said.

Ashley Mullins, 18, Sarasota, was the driver of the second car, a 1993 Ford Escort. She suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Chen's dog also was hit. A kayaker rescued it after it jumped in the water.
