Pigs reported missing at Palmetto pasture, sheriff’s office said

MANATEE -- Three pigs went missing New Year’s Day in Palmetto after someone opened their pen, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Sunday morning, a person entered a fenced in pasture in the 4300 block of 17th Street East and opened the pen. The gate was found open.

“It is not known if the pigs were released or taken,” an incident report said.

The pigs’ owner, Gary David Brethauer, said they weighed about 200 pounds each. It’s the first time animals have gone missing at his farm, he said.
