Apparent celebratory gunfire hits four Manatee County homes

MANATEE — Four homes were hit with gunfire shortly after midnight on New Years Day, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Two mobile homes were hit in the 600 block of 63rd Avenue West, one brick and mortar home was hit in the 1600 block of 38th Avenue East and one mobile home was struck in 800 block of 53rd Avenue East, according to separate reports.

A 59-year-old woman who lives on a lot in the 600 block of 63rd Avenue West told deputies that she returned home early Sunday and discovered that a bullet had come down through her ceiling and into her bathroom, the report states. She was not hurt.

A 79-year-old man who lives in the same park as the 59-year-old woman, but on a different lot, told deputies that a bullet came through his ceiling and into his living room. He was also uninjured.

A 43-year-old woman who lives on 38th Avenue East reported that she was in bed at 12:47 a.m. Sunday when she heard a loud bang, which she thought was someone knocking on her back window.

But when she got up and turned on the light she found a bullet in her bed and a hole in her ceiling, the report states. She was uninjured.

A 71-year-old woman who lives in a park on 53rd Avenue East told deputies that she came home to find a bullet had come down through her ceiling and into her kitchen, the report states.
