Unbuckled drivers in Manatee targeted by law enforcement

PALMETTO — Drivers who were not wearing seatbelts were targets today of a team of Florida Highway Patrol and Palmetto Police Department officers posted at a grass lot overlooking a busy artery in Palmetto.

A cadre of eight troopers and officers had written about 20 seatbelt-related tickets in less than an hour at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 41/301 and 17th Street, according to FHP Lt. Christopher Miller.

Each ticket in Manatee County costs its recipient $116, Miller said.

“It’s part of our holiday enforcement,” he explained. “We’re concentrating on dangerous moving violations, like speeding, aggressive driving, and today, we partnered with the Palmetto Police Department on seatbelt enforcement.”
