‘Nervous’ would-be robber flees Sarasota bank

SARASOTA -- Authorities are looking for a man who tried to rob a bank Tuesday afternoon, but left after his nerves got the best of him, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

At 12:42 p.m., the man showed the butt of a black handgun to a teller and pointed it at the cash drawer.

But moments later, the would-be robber “apparently got nervous and fled the bank,” a media release said.

He walked west across U.S. 41 toward a CVS store, the release said.

The man was wearing mirrored sunglasses and a faded denim jacket. His hair appeared to have been recently dyed a “a whitish-blonde color,” the release said.
