EAST MANATEE -- A deputy euthanized a deer Wednesday night after it was severely injured, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.
At about 7 p.m., the deputy spotted the deer, which was struck by a car on the roadway at 162nd Avenue East and Golf Course Road.
The young two-point buck was limping on the side of the road, bleeding from its mouth, collapsed several times, and landed in a ditch, a media release said.
The deer “appeared to have a broken leg and was suffering,” the release said.
The Florida Wildlife Commission was notified and the director from the Animal Care and Education center came to the scene.
She said the deer was severely injured and “advised that there was not much she could do for the deer,” the release said.
The deputy then euthanized the animal. It was removed from the area, the release said.
