A man shot a pit bull in its rear after it charged him and his dog Tuesday night, a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office incident report said.
The pit bull was found mortally wounded in the woods a short time later, and was euthanized by deputies.
Earlier, at around 10 p.m., the man was walking his German shepherd on a leash on the east side of 16th Street West.
As the man and his dog approached the 5500 block, a pit bull that was tied up with a chain to a tree became “aggressive,” the report said, broke free and charged at the man and the man’s dog.
The dogs “engaged,” according to the report, and the German shepherd’s owner, “in fear of his safety,” shot the pit bull once with a “legally carried” handgun.
