Bradenton garbage worker hit by Jeep

MANATEE -- A Waste Management employee was seriously injured Tuesday morning when he was pinned between his garbage truck and a Jeep that collided head-on with his truck, Florida Highway Patrol said.

A Waste Management truck broke down near the intersection of 45th Avenue East and 51st Street East in Bradenton. Its two occupants got out of the truck to place warning signals around it, an FHP report said.

At about 9:23 a.m., a burgundy four-door Jeep “failed to slow” and collided head-on with one of the workers and the front of the garbage truck, the report said.

The 40-year-old was seriously injured and taken to Blake Medical Center. The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. The other Waste Management worker was not hospitalized, but suffered minor injuries.

The front end of the Jeep was severely damaged in the accident, while damage to the garbage truck appeared minimal.
