Woman carjacked at DeSoto Square mall in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A woman told deputies she was carjacked in the parking lot in front of JC Penney’s at 10:50 a.m. today at the DeSoto Square mall.

Following a shopping trip, the 42-year-old Manatee County woman said she was sitting in her vehicle talking on the phone when a male and a female got in the backseat of her unlocked car, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The male suspect put his arm around the victim’s neck and demanded she drive. The second suspect implied she had a knife.

The victim drove the suspects to the 2100 block of 14th Street West, where they got out and fled on foot with a white trash bag full of stuff, the report states.

The victim was uninjured and nothing was taken from her. The victim got into contact with 911, and patrol responded.

No arrests have been made, said Dave Bristow, a sheriff’s office spokesman.
