MANATEE -- A 35-year-old Manatee County man being sought on carjacking and domestic-related battery charges following an attack Saturday night in the 3300 block of 8th Street East was arrested about 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
Three persons -- a woman, her brother, and her boyfriend -- arrived at a residence, where the brother asked to borrow his sister's car. She declined and her brother began punching her in the head and face, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.
When her boyfriend stepped in to stop the attack, he fell victim to a beating, too.
The brother then climbed into his sister's car, which still had the keys in the ignition. But when he saw his sister's boyfriend on the phone, he got out of the car and assaulted him once again.
The brother got back in to the car and drove off. Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the boyfriend on the scene. The woman was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital. The boyfriend suffered scratch marks and contusions to his neck and face and some swelling to his left cheek, the sheriff's office said.
The woman had soft tissue damage, but no fractures. Her vehicle was located a couple of blocks away from the residence. A a K9 responded and unsuccessfully attempted to track the suspect.
Juan Leyva, 35, was the man who was arrested Sunday night in the carjacking and battery.
