MANATEE - A suspect in an aggravated battery early Monday morning was injured falling onto a broken bottle and was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Bayfront Medical Center. The incident occurred in the 900 block of 25th Street East about 1 a.m.
The victim and the suspect were both intoxicated and were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated to a physical confrontation. The suspect broke a glass bottle and told the victim he was going to kill him. The suspect took a swipe at the victim with the bottle and missed. The victim then grabbed the bottle and he physically restrained the suspect, sustaining a small cut on his finger, according to a report from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
They wrestled and then fell to the ground. The suspect fell on the bottle he was holding and cut himself. The suspect sustained lacerations to his chest and face. A witness on the scene corroborated the account of the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.
Israel Alvarez-Lopez, 26, is facing a charge of aggravated battery.
