MANATEE — A 20-year-old man is charged with breaking in to a woman's residence and sexually assaulting her, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The victim called the sheriff's office about 2:15 a.m. Saturday when she heard what sounded like someone trying to break in to her mobile home in the 4000 block of 12th Street Court East, in Tidevue Estates in Ellenton.
As the woman approached her bedroom door, armed with a baseball bat, the suspect pulled the door open.
"She swung at the suspect with the bat but is unsure if she struck the suspect," a news release states. "The suspect took the bat away from the victim and pushed her to the ground."
The victim said she did not have any money, but the suspect said "he was not there for the money."
The man then sexually assaulted the woman, according to the sheriff's office.
Responding deputies saw a man — later identified as Joshua O'Berry — running between nearby trailers and eventually found him hiding in the bed of a pickup truck in the 4200 block of 12th Street Court East.
The victim identified O'Berry as her attacker, according to the sheriff's office.
O'Berry was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on charges of sexual battery, burglary and resisting arrest.
