MANATEE — A 59-year-old man was arrested late Friday after a standoff with authorities at his Bradenton home, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Shortly before 11 p.m., Thomas Parks, of the 5200 block of 41st Avenue West, had gotten into an argument with neighbors, and then gone inside his home and threatened his wife with a shotgun and sword, according to a news release. She fled the house and called the sheriff's office.
When deputies arrived, Parks said they "would have to come in and shoot him in the head," the report states.
But after talking with deputies, Parks eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody on a charge of aggravated domestic assault. He was also being held for a psychiatric evaluation under the Baker Act, according to the sheriff's office.
At his wife's request, deputies removed several weapons from the home, according to the report.
