5 to split $10,000 for arrest of suspect in Manatee girls' attacks

MANATEE -- The Gold Star Club of Manatee County, in conjunction with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bradenton Police Department, will be giving reward money this week in connection with the recent arrest of Jared Jenkins.

Five people, who provided information in the case, will be splitting the $10,000 reward. All of the recipients wish to remain anonymous.

Jenkins was arrested Feb. 17 and charged with multiple counts in connection with two attacks on girls in the Manatee sheriff's jurisdiction and one attack on a girl in Bradenton. Jenkins has pleaded not guilty to attacking the three girls.

The plea came after he admitted to raping a 15-year-old girl and attacking two other girls in Bradenton, according to investigators.

Jenkins has been charged with false imprisonment and attempted sexual battery in connection with a Nov. 29 incident involving a 15-year-old girl in the 5100 block of 51st Street West.

Jenkins also pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and sexual battery in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl on Jan. 31 in the 4900 block of 47th Avenue West, and attempted sexual battery and kidnapping of a child under the age of 13 in connection with an attack on a 12-year-old girl Feb. 10 in the 5500 block of 26th Street West.

Jenkins’ arraignment is set for March 25, and he is being held in Manatee County jail without bond.
