Bradenton man flees cop, faces carjacking charge

MANATEE -- A 19-year-old man faces carjacking and aggravated assault charges after he was chased and arrested by a sheriff’s deputy this morning.

At about 1:30 a.m. today, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle at U.S. 301 and 53rd Avenue East for a traffic violation, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported. He confirmed that the car had been stolen in a carjacking, but the driver went into a Wal-Mart parking lot.

The deputy ordered the suspect out of the vehicle and to the ground. But the suspect indicated he had a gun and fled on foot, the report stated.

Another deputy apprehended the suspect, Joshua Woolley of Bradenton, at a nearby car wash at the 3100 block of 53rd Avenue East.
