Man robbed of $3,000 at Bradenton motel

MANATEE — A man was beaten and robbed of $3,000 at a Bradenton motel Tuesday evening, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 8 p.m., the victim and a woman met at the Siesta Inn & Suites, 2303 First St. E., "to spend some time together," a news release states. About an hour later, the woman left but returned a short time later.

As the victim let her back into the room, two men armed with handguns — the woman told deputies "they had come out of nowhere" — entered the room. One of the men pistol-whipped the victim, knocking him onto the bed, and the other took the woman into the bathroom, according to a news release.

At first, the victim told the gunman to take whatever he wanted, but then he decided to try and overpower his assailant. He rushed the gunman and pressed him against the wall. The suspect yelled for his partner to shoot the victim, according to the report.

When the victim heard this, he ran out the door and to the front desk of the hotel to call 911.

The suspects ran east to the rear of the building.

When the victim finally returned to his room, he noticed that his pants — which contained $3,000 in cash — were gone, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim "had not been wearing pants during the incident," the release states.
