Bradenton police: Man asked minor for sex, arrested

BRADENTON -- A 63-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he asked a 13-year-old girl to have sex with him as she was returning home from school, the Bradenton Police Department reports.

Walter Carlow was watching children at a playground at about 4:30 p.m. in the Sheridan Place Apartments, 300 block of 26th Avenue West, when parents asked him to leave after witnessing him rubbing his genitals, a report said. At that time children were returning from school and Carlow approached two girls, spoke to them and continued to rub his private area.

As an adult witness approached Carlow, he spoke to another young girl and told her he wanted to have sex with her, the report said. The adult then chased him off.

The 13-year-old told officers she was walking home from the bus stop when Carlow stopped her and made an inappropriate comment. He then asked her to have sex with him, according to the report.

She also said her cousin and a witness told her to get away from Carlow.

Carlow, who was wearing a black shirt and carrying a small pet carrier, was caught shortly thereafter and placed under arrest.

Carlow has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior and was being held in Manatee County jail on a $10,000 bond.
