Manatee sheriff's police dog bites robbery suspect

MANATEE — A robbery suspect was arrested early this morning after a police dog tracked him down and bit him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Matthew Clayton White, 23, allegedly had stolen $40 from a relative of a woman with whom he was standing outside a residence in the 300 block of 64th Street N.E. about 1:15 a.m. They had been waiting for the relative to bring them some money and when she arrived , White grabbed the money and ran, according to a news release.

Responding deputies set up a perimeter, and the K-9 tracked White to the backyard of a residence. When White refused to to comply, the dog bit and apprehended White, according to the report.

White was charged with robbery and was being held at the Manatee County jail on $50,000 bond.
