Manatee High student being interviewed by police after threat

BRADENTON -- A Manatee High School student who police fear could acquire a firearm to back up a verbal threat against another student was being interviewed by officers today.

“A boyfriend and his girlfriend got into an argument today at Manatee High and the boyfriend said he was ‘going to get’ her,“ said said Deputy Chief Jeffrey Lewis of the Bradenton Police Department.

“There was some concern that the boyfriend could acquire a gun,” Lewis said. ”That is why he is being interviewed right now.”

The school resource officer at Manatee High alerted the Bradenton Police Department about the threat and officers went to the school, Lewis said.

No arrests had been made as of late this morning, he said.

“We won’t know exactly what action will be taken until the interview is over,” Lewis said.
