Motorcyclist crashes into garbage cans, dies

MANATEE — A 36-year-old man died after his motorcycle crashed into garbage cans Sunday in front of a home on 37th Street West.

The victim was identified by Florida Highway Patrol early Monday as Elronezo L. Holmes of Bradenton.

Holmes, who was pronounced dead at Blake Medical Center, was heading northbound on 37th Street West, just north of Cortez Road, around 7 p.m. Sunday when the crash occurred near the intersection with 39th Avenue West, according to a FHP news release.

As Holmes approached 39th Avenue West, he traveled off the roadway and onto the east shoulder of 37th Street West. The motorcycle's undercarriage struck the pavement, according to FHP.

As he continued across 39th Avenue West, he entered the north shoulder of the road and went airborne. The motorcycle overturned, ejecting Holmes. The motorcycle came to rest on 37th Street West, and Holmes landed on the east shoulder of 37th Street West, according to FHP.

The accident resulted in a closure of a few blocks of the road surrounding the area for more than an hour as Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated.

The section of road where the accident occurred has a 30 mph posted limit. Some neighbors reported that they heard the bike roaring through its gears just before the crash.
